Let me start off by saying that I LIKE WHAT I LIKE and I usually stick to what works for me when it comes to the beauty department. I keep this same energy in both my personal and my pro kit. With that being said, you'll see that I don't keep many foundations in my personal stash and the same goes for my Contour Kissed kit. Here is a mixture of drugstore and splurge worthy foundations that have worked well with combination skin over the years.
1. Maybelline FIT ME! Matte + Poreless Foundation & Dewy + Smooth Foundation
My skin fluctuates from super dry to oily and I like to keep both Maybelline FIT ME foundations on hand just in case. I mean, they are so affordable, easy to find and the shade range (for a drugstore brand) makes it easy for grab-n-go shopping. The lightweight formula allows you to build your own desired coverage with a brush or a beauty sponge of your choice. Throw these in the bag at Target, Walmart, CVS.
2. BLK/OPL TRUE COLOR® Skin Perfecting Stick Foundation SPF 15
Meticulously designed for women of color, Black Opal is well priced and perfectly packaged for any makeup bag. Its velvety CK💋bridal approved formula will have all of your contoured angles photo ready every single time. This cream stick foundation is long wearing with buildable coverage that gets you from medium to full coverage with a brush or sponge application. The line offers 16 true-to-tone shades and can be found at your local CVS and Walmart.
3. Too Faced Born This Way Foundation
First things first, you must know that I am extremely frugal when it comes to beauty purchases and I rarely pay full price. I simply don't believe in it. I snagged this foundation with a 30% coupon + free shipping. I was on the hunt for a new foundation because my skin was changing after I had stopped breastfeeding and makeup just wasn't sitting right (we'll chat about that later). Packed with Coconut Water, which aids in replenishing skin's moisture, Alpine Rose that helps empower skin's health and resilience and Hyaluronic Acid which gives a smoother, more youthful appearance. I have not let this foundation go.
4. COVER FX Natural Finish Foundation
AGAIN, ya girl did not pay full price for this foundation and despite the price, it truly is one of my favorite foundations and the one I always go back to. I love the fact that a little bit goes a long way and it blurs out any imperfections I may be trying to hide at the time. It is a water-based foundation that truly does have a beautiful natural finish regardless of how much you build it. I have reached for this foundation for a "barely there" look and even when I've gotten all dolled-up and smokey-eyed for a glamorous gala. If you are prone to acne or breakouts, this water-based formula is a good option for you as it is gentle on the skin.
